Flu Vaccinations

We have received lots of enquiries about flu vaccinations. Please note that receptionists will not be booking flu appointments but we will be advising all eligible patients by letter or by phone. We have now used all our stocks of flu vaccination and we are waiting for more to be delivered. We will contact any eligible patients who have not been vaccinated as soon as these are available. If you have not heard from us by 13th November and believe you are eligible please give us a call.

We will offer the vaccination to all our eligible patients those over 65 and those who have a medical condition which puts them more at risk if they catch flu. The Government has extended the flu vaccination this year to patients who have been advised to shield during the Covid outbreak. Some of these patients will already be in our at risk category but we are awaiting guidance from the Government on how we obtain sufficient vaccines to offer vaccination to this additional category of patients. Additionally we are advised to wait for further Government advice on the plan to offer vaccinations to patients aged 50-64. We understand that this programme will not take place until November at the earliest. We will keep you updated when we receive further guidance.

School aged children will be given the flu vaccination at school and will not be able to attend the surgery for this. Vaccinations for those children aged 4 – 18 who have a medical condition that requires them to have a different vaccination and children aged 2-3 years can have their vaccination at the surgery and arrangements will be communicated to parents of eligible children for the vaccinations to be given by one of our practice nurses.

 Improved Access at Evenings/Weekends

On the 1st October 2018 Improved Access was launched nationwide and you can now see a GP or other healthcare professional during:

  • weekday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.00pm
  • Saturdays and Sundays

These appointments offered could be:

  • at your registered practice
  • another local GP practices
  • another local NHS service - such as a General Practice Hub

What type of appointments will be available?

Evening appointments between 6.30pm – 8pm Monday to Friday will be offered by a practice in your area. These appointments will be offered by a range of clinical professionals. The practice currently provides these appointments on Mondays and Tuesdays between 07:30 to 08:00 and between 18:30 to 19:30.  Please try to see your own doctor if possible.

On Saturdays, a clinical professional will be available between 9.00 am to 12.00 pm.

On Sundays and Bank Holidays a GP will be available between 9.00 am to 12.30 pm (at a hub in Tonbridge or Maidstone).

 Who can book these appointments?

Improved Access appointments are available for all patients registered with a west Kent practice. However, it will be unlikely that you will be seen by your normal GP and it is likely that you will have to go to a different surgery to your registered practice for these appointments.

How can I book an appointment?

In order to book these appointments, you contact your surgery reception staff as normal. You will not be able to phone the reception staff on Saturdays, Sundays / Bank Holidays or between 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday.

You can only attend these appointments if you have pre-booked.  If you do not have an appointment and require medical attention when the surgery is closed please call 111.
